pileated31 This amazing album will wonderfully invoke your fondest memories of uplifting encounters with Nature. Track titles matter and track 7 (This Splendid Place) is so appropriately titled that it will probably invoke tears, as it does with me. Favorite track: This Splendid Place.

Sergey Lenkov Tribal drums (not that tribal which are nailing you into your seat) within soundscapes created by keyboards/Frippertronic style guitars by Dirk Serries, It's like you are in rainforest. Music is atmospheric and relaxing, Good music to think about something listening to it,

Guy Newlan This has been a favorite of mine for many years. I had to get the download because of the bonus track!

Edward J Roller The time frame of this release represents a pinnacle in Dirk's creativity and work ethic. Recording on a few labels concurrently, live concerts in Europe and USA along with collaborations, the most prolific being the work with Steve Roach. Tribal explorations of the highest level before his experiments with the fujara in the Hypnos releases and the electric guitar with the Relapse trilogy. A great recording from the Projekt era along with "River of Appearance"

PNM This album has been the obligatory first on my morning playlist since I found out it helped me concentrate while studying for my exams (physics) back in the late ‘90s. I still listen to it regularly. A timeless classic! Favorite track: This Splendid Place.

Scott I've enjoyed this CD for many years; "Forest Arrow" is my favorite VO song of them all. Nice to hear some live recordings, thanks. Favorite track: Forest Arrow.

MikeG at Ambient Music Guide wrote: “Crossing The Trail (1998) emphasises a tribal side to the richer sound first heard on River Of Appearance. It’s more in the environmental ambience mould, laden with delicate location sounds from nature and a myriad of slow percussive grooves that suggest mysterious ritual without resorting to any kind of overstatement… Crossing The Trail is a fine example of the tribal ambient form.”

The CD is the original 1998 edition (no bonus track). We are down to the final box. They are on sale for $12. The 20th anniversary digital edition includes a bonus track, a 26-minute live recording from the 1997 Projektfest, featuring Steve Roach. Steve writes: “VidnaObmana and I collaborated on a long list of releases from the 90’s through the early 2000’s. These are still favorites among my work with other artists. This download features a 26-minute live piece we performed at Projektfest’97."
