Paul Asbury Seaman For the third year in a row, Peter Phippen makes my list of notable albums. This one—released on “Hallowed-Eve” of 2023—is an instant stand-out. No one does mysterious/mystical, earthy, timeless flute playing quite like Phippen. His carefully chosen collaborations, as here, help bring out the best of these qualities. As a frequent mix-maker (for Low Light Mixes on Mixcloud) I specialize in sleep and meditation programs. This album is such a program—by itself. Favorite track: Nightshade.

Dave Aftandilian Thanks to Projekt’s recent releases, I have come to know and love Peter Phippen’s deeply emotive and introspective flute playing. Those traits are very much on display here, given additional warmth and immersive texture by Ivar Lunde, Jr.’s ambient treatments. Listening feels like watching purple twilight gently deepen into velvet night, as the world grows hushed and the stars begin to twinkle brightly in the infinite heavens. In this beautiful silence we can finally hear our inner voices.

Venturing into pristine musical terrain, flutist Peter Phippen and synthesist Ivar Lunde, Jr. reveal a magical album of dark secretive nocturnal soundscapes. Engaging mystery and textural sparseness, the six tracks unearth lush emotions entwined with inner stillness and self-discovery. These meditative moments are ideal for stress reduction and creating a positive mindset.

Phippen's bamboo and wooden flute improvisations offer the seeds for composer Lunde, Jr. to weave ambient arrangements utilizing synthesizers, gongs, and wine glasses. This results in a natural flow of each artist's feelings.
